Система обновилась удачно. Обновил ядро, но вот simple-scan так и не заработал...
Но вместо него отлично работает

Проблема скорей всего в архитектуре системы Linux Mint Cinnamon 64 bit...
Проблема решена путём установки LM 13 Cinnamon Maya 32 bit и обновлением ядра до 3.2.0-67 ...
